RUTH PAULEY LECTURE SERIES – Starting Sept. 12th

The Ruth Pauley Lecture Series for 2017-2018 kicks off on Tuesday evening Sept. 12th at the Owens Auditorium at the Sandhills Community College at 7:30 p.m.

This is the 31st season celebrating the groundwork laid by Ruth Pauley.

Discussing the history of the series, Ruth Pauley and this year’s lineup of guest speakers are Catherine Murphy, Director for Communication – Moore County Schools, Wilma Laney, the vice chair of the lecture series and a representative from the League of Women Voters, and John Arnold, the program chair.

The mission of the Ruth Pauley Lecture Series is to deepen society’s understanding of key issues and encourage public participation in their resolution.

Past speakers have include Maya Angelou, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jack Nicklaus, David Gergen, Dr. Jane Goodall and Ralph Nader, to name just a few.

The Ruth Pauley Lecture Series is free to the public and this year there are 5 speakers lined up from Sept. 12th thru March 20th , 2018 discussing the most timely topics of our day.

TEMPLE THEATRE – 2017 & 2018 SEASON – 10th Year Anniversary

 

Producing Artistic Director, Peggy Taphorn and Choreographer Jacob Toth discuss the upcoming season at the Temple Theatre which kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 14th with the production of FOOTLOOSE.

Although the Temple Theatre was built in 1925 as a Vaudeville house and has been in its current form of existence for 34 years, this iconic building has been home to Peggy Taphorn for the last 10 years.

In addition to 7 stellar productions this seasons concluding with Beauty and the Beast, the Temple Theatre is also host to many one night events from Oct. thru April 2018. Whether it’s comedy, music, or great fundraisers, the Temple Theatre offers so much to the area’s residents.

The Temple Academy, Temple Teen Ensemble & Summer Camps offers our youngest generation a firm footing in the Arts and helping them by creating indelible impressions for the Arts for a lifetime to come.

Drug Free Moore County Executive Director Karen Wicker leads a discussion on National Recovery Month and their upcoming fundraiser, RUN FOR RECOVERY to be held Sept. 23rd at the National Athletic Village at 201 Air Tool Drive in Southern Pines.

Joining Karen is Reubin Burney of the Pinehurst Comprehensive Treatment Center and past guest Dan Purdy.

They touch on many topics, including:
