FEBRUARY EVENTS IN THE PINES-WOMEN OF THE PINES & HEART N SOUL OF JAZZ 2024

Women of the Pines is celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2024.

One of their chief fundraisers is CASINO NIGHT to be held on Feb. 10th at the Fair Barn.

This event is full of surprises, great food & music as well as a silent auction.

Women of the Pines supports numerous Moore County agencies thru their fundraising efforts.

The agency’s they support speak directly to the  heart of the people behind Women of the Pines.

Dr. Larry Arnold retired from teaching at Pembroke recently but he hasn’t slowed down.

He heads up the SCC Jazz Band which will be performing at the Bradshaw Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Feb. 8th.

The following evening the Art Council of Moore County is featuring nationally known jazz vocalist, Jane Monheit.

Ticket prices for this event run anywhere from $29.00 – $59.00 per person.

PINEHURST MUNICIPAL ELECTION – 2023 CANDIDATE FORUM & WOMEN OF THE PINES

The Pinehurst Candidate Forum is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 17th at the Village Hall. Bob Barmore discusses what is on the docket for that evening as well as general voting changes and tips. The event will feature all 3 Mayoral candidates and the 5 candidates running for two seats on the Village Council.

President Barbara Summers is joined by committee heads, Beth Van Vooren, Kate Len, Mary Hilgenberg To discuss the upcoming fundraiser (Bake Sale & Bling) on Saturday, Oct. 1st as well and numerous upcoming events thru April 2024.

The Bake Sale will be held at the Sandhills Women’s Exchange at 15 Azalea Rd. in Pinehurst. The Women of the Pines raises money all year round to solely benefit non-profit agencies in need of funds. Women of the Pines was founded in 1974 so 2024 marks their 50th Anniversary of being great caregivers to Moore County.

Women of the Pines

Co-chair Patti Talton of the Women of the Pines Bake Sale, being held on Saturday, Oct 15th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Women’s Exchange at 15 Azalea Rd in Pinehurst joins us along with Barbara Summers, President of the Women of the Pines.

The annual event is a chief fundraiser for this service based organization which was established in 1974.  In addition to the bake sale, there will be a significant raffle with great odds to win.

The theme of the raffle is fourfold: Pamper Yourself, Wine & Dine, Shop Local and Best Dressed.  Raffle tickets are $25.00 each and limited to 50 tickets per box.

Board members Kathy Newcomb and Barb Summers join Event chair, Glenda Kirby to discuss their upcoming fundraiser, Wine/Bourbon, Cheese & Chocolate Parings Party, on Feb. 19th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Forest Creek Golf Club.  Women of the Pines is a 501 © (3) Charity.  This organization continues to think outside the box in ways to raise monies for many of the local charities they support year round.

Encore Center’s production of Around the World in Eighty Days – Feb. 11th – 20th, 2022 

Artistic director Jacob Toth is joined by actors, Denny Orr and Bob Dyer to discuss Jules Verne’s classic. Around the World in Eighty Days is a dinner theatre production with food by Ashten’s. This ambitious production features five talented actors who portray 39 characters!

Jacob Toth also discusses the many facets of the Encore Center’s music, dance and vocal classes for adults and children, as well as previewing their ambitious 2022 upcoming schedule.

The Historic POSTMASTER’S HOUSE IN DOWNTOWN ABERDEEN

Town Commissioner Wilma Laney, former Town of Aberdeen Commissioner, Fay Honeycutt and former Mayor, Betsy Mofield speak about the oldest building in downtown Aberdeen and the many uses this 1880 home holds for the community of Aberdeen and Moore County.  Donations for the continued upkeep of this historic home, which serves the public for social and business meetings, weddings, showers and parties, is an ongoing effort.
