Southern Pines town council members Fred Walden & Mike Fields, join former Southern Pines mayor Mike Haney to discuss the Nov. 13th street naming dedication for Felton Capel and the inspiration behind the naming of a street in Southern Pines after Mr. Capel because of all he means to the Southern Pines Community.
Mary Ann Manning, the President of BNI, introduces a panel fof 4 guests: Wayne Haddock of Pinehurst Homes Inc., Brad Hainley of Sandhills Heating and Refrigeration, Inc., Rodney Swarms of the Plumbing Knight and Debbie Putz, Property Manager for Village of Pinehurst Rentals & Golf Inc. to discuss the benefits of Business Networking International and how their organization fosters trust, referral business and a reliable line of services to the Moore County consumer and homeowner.

BNI is the most successful networking organization in the world. Members pass millions of referrals to one another which results in billions of dollars in business each year. The Moore Business Chapter of BNI meets each week at the Pinecrest Inn in Pinehurst. Representatives and owners from a wide variety of local businesses gather each Thursday with the sole purpose of networking and referring business to one another. This year alone, members have passed over $2 million in referrals through this organization.

SHOP LOCAL – A SEVEN LAKES PERSPECTIVE

Are You Smarter Than a Moore County 5th Grader

Patrick Coughlin (President and CEO of the Moore County Chamber of Commerce) and Andrew Lyons (VP of First Bank), board members of the Public Education Foundation of Moore County (PEF) join host Bill Sahadi of Fore Properties to discuss PEF’s fundraiser, Are You Smarter Than a Moore County Schools 5th Grader. The 2nd annual event will be held Thursday, November 15 from 6-8pm at the Robert E. Lee Auditorium at Pinecrest High School.

Special guests on the show include two of the 12 elementary school teams competing on November 15. Representing Southern Pines Elementary are Jada Harrington, JT Mayo and Caleb Nocton. Team members from Pinehurst Elementary are Ava Booker, Noah Lyons and Claire Murden. Teams from Sandhiills Farm Life and Westmoore Elementary will be back to defend their crown.

These 5th graders are all special young people who have earned the right to be part of this important fundraiser. Their organization, preparation and skill sets will make all Moore County residents proud of the type of students that the Moore County Schools are developing and nuturing.

These 5th graders will inspire you as they did all the adult participants in this radio show.

MANAGING HOLIDAY STRESS

With today’s kickoff of the Holly Arts and Crafts Festival in the Village of Pinehurst, the festive autumn and holiday season is underway in Moore County. The stresses of the Holiday season is a much chronicled topic that our two local Moore County experts, psychologist Dr. Kira Rogers and Family Therapist Keith McDaniel tackle head on with some great tips and suggestions. The conversation is candid, thought provoking and well timed.

Kira Rogers is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of North Carolina practicing out of the Village of Pinehurst, serving all of the Sandhills area including Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Carthage, Aberdeen, West End, Pinebluff and Whispering Pines. She will treat individuals and couples ages 13 and older. Dr. Rogers specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to quickly identify goals and practical tools to improve and enhance client well-being. She has experience working with depression, anxiety, PTSD, LGBT issues, grief and loss, adjustment, substance abuse, and severe and persistent mental disorders. Dr. Rogers also has specific personal and professional experience with the Military, and will offer discounts to active duty servicemembers, their families, as well as any retirees or veterans. Keith McDaniel, MFT, has been a family therapist for over 30 years, specializing in grief counseling, father loss, couples therapy & family of origin issues. THE SOUTHERN WHEY CHEESE SHOP OF DOWNTOWN SOUTHERN PINES

An exciting local food movement has been taking shape in Southern Pines during the past several years, and is part of the inspiration behind Susan and Steve Peters’ decision to recently open Southern Whey – a charming specialty shop selling cheese, meat and other foodstuff – on the corner of NE Broad Street and New Hampshire Avenue in downtown Southern Pines.
Today we’re talking with Susan, shop-owner and Southern Pines native, as well as two local suppliers to Southern Whey: Hunter Stovall of Paradox Farm and Michael Miller with Southern Salmon.
After moving back to Southern Pines from Manhattan, Susan and her husband, Steve, dreamt of opening a business that would engage their local community, and mused about the corner bodegas found throughout New York City. And they were especially excited by the idea of creating a venue for food artisans who think “local” to bring their goods to market year-round.
Hunter Stovall, a local attorney, and his wife Sue, a local physical therapist, own Paradox Farm in West End. In April of this year they completed work on their dairy and received certification to sell local, fresh and ripened goat cheese. Cheese Louise!, the Stovalls’ fresh Chevre, has developed a cult following in Southern Pines and is available at Southern Whey.
Recently relocated to Southern Pines with his wife, Madeline, Michael Miller was born in Washington state and grew up on a small island outside of Seattle. He was raised on fresh seafood, especially freshly smoked salmon, and has been marinating and smoking salmon for more than 20 years. The salmon is wild-caught off the Canadian coast and will be available fresh and never frozen at Southern Whey.
