CGI Communications is working with the Town of Southern Pines to revamp the town’s website.
Account Executive Joshuwa Maiolo joins Jen DiMayo from Fore Properties to discuss the power of video
and the methods of marketing the town to residents and out of state individuals and families who might be
moving to the area. With YouTube being the #1 search engine in the world, it is easy to see how the tenets of what
CGI Communications will put the best light on what the Town of Southern Pines has to offer all.

A Celebration of Achievement – Elizabeth O’Brien and Keegan Foyles

Elizabeth O’Brien is currently Miss Moore County and an honor student at High Point University. Her community service work is exemplary. She is embarking on the Miss North Carolina competition on June 22nd. Keegan Foyles is a recent honors graduate of Pinecrest High School and is embarking on a full scholarship to Methodist University for choral music and lacrosse this fall.

Together these two gifted young ladies share the story of their families, their inspirations, their aspirations, and the driving forces and formulas that have put them in a position for success. Their courage, commitment, resolve, and heart serve as an excellent example for all students coming up behind them.

Elizabeth and Keegan are Moore County natives.

Board members, Cyndi Fifield of NovaeDesignGroup & Jason Harpster of Central Security Systems, Inc. lead a discussion about the upcoming 2019 Spring Fest event on April 27th  from 10:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. as well as walking us thru the other events and benefits of being a member of the Southern Pines Business Association, the largest of its type in Moore County.

The Southern Pines Business Association

Founded in 1979 by a small group of dedicated merchants, the Southern Pines Business Association continually works towards the promotion, beautification and overall improvement of the Southern Pines community. It is the mission of the Southern Pines Business Association is to encourage and enhance the commercial well-being of Southern Pines and improve the quality of its common life.

The Purpose of the SPBA:

1 To create a network of businesses with an interest in the welfare of Southern Pines;

2 To encourage cooperative efforts, business to business, within the community; and

3 To perform other services, such as community events, that are mutually beneficial to the Association and the community.

April is Sexual Assault awareness month!

-Nationally, every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted and every 8 minutes that victim is a child. And 1 in 5 women will be raped in their lifetime.
-In Moore County, Friend to Friend is the only agency that provides trained advocates 24/7 to accompany adult victims of sexual assault to the hospital.
-Friend to Friend also participates in the Moore County Sexual Assault Task Force.

Friend to Friend’s Mission Statement: Our mission is to help survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking rebuild their lives.

Dr. Anne Friesen, Executive Director of Friend to Friend, Karmen Harris, RN, SANE-A, Sexual Assault & Outreach Coordinator, and Casey Halferty, Outreach & Prevention Program Coordinator get together to discuss the important work of Friend to Friend as well as highlighting the upcoming April 26th fundraiser & awareness raising 5K race.

‘Party for the Pine’ Weymouth Woods – Sandhills Nature Preserve & Sandhills Area Land Trust

This event is coming up on April 13th behind the Boyd House in Southern Pines.
Each year we celebrate all things Longleaf, including the birthday of the Oldest known Longleaf in the world which is located there on site. This year our Longleaf is turning 471!! This is an all day event that brings together all the groups that work on restoring the Longleaf Pine ecosystem.

The goal of the event is to educate the citizens of Moore County about the Natural and Cultural history of this once great forest and why there is so much effort to bring it back. There are events for all ages, including birthday cake and a toast to the NC State tree. The day ends with a live demonstration of a controlled burn conducted by the Weymouth Woods Park staff.

* The Biological significance of the LL ecosystem.
* The role of prescribed fire in the LL forest.
