“Things that make you go hmmm” and information about the programs and the history of the BOYS & GIRLS CLUB.
Founded in 1997, the Boys & Girls of the Sandhills provides after school programs for over 200 children and teens. From games and athletics to drug prevention workshops, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sandhills offers young people a range of fun and productive activities. Clubs are open each day after school from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – when research has shown children to be most vulnerable to gangs, violence and other risky behaviors. In the summer, Clubs and special summer-only sites open their doors all day to young people with nowhere else to go.
The Boys & Girls Clubs programs focus on the unique needs of the boys and girls in the communities served. Providing a safe place where young people can grow socially, scholastically and athletically, the Boys and Girls Clubs provide the positive influence needed by so many young people. Caring, trained youth development professionals provide guidance in helping boys and girls to:
- Discover their needs
- Pursue new interests
- Nurture their talents
- Broaden their viewpoints
- Dissolve their prejudices
- Resolve their conflicts
- Set goals
- Understand themselves
- HAVE FUN!
Background
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sandhills has actively sought to enrich the lives of girls and boys that other youth agencies fail to reach. Boys & Girls Club is dedicated to ensuring that our community’s disadvantaged youngsters have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures as productive citizens.Since
1999, we have provided children with a positive place to go, results-oriented programming and a professional staff to guide them.
Last year, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sandhills served more than 900 young people through its Clubs, summer sites and outreach programs.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sandhills obtains funding for its programs through donations from civic organizations, individuals, Corporations, federal, state and local grants, the United way, membership fees and various fundraising activities. The cost of providing services to a member for a year is $500, but in order to serve effectively those who need us most, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sandhills asks families to pay annual membership dues of only $10 per child and no child is turned away due to inability to pay.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sandhills has now grown to more than 1000 members, an average of more than 250 young people daily during the school year and over 200 average daily during the Summer Camp program. Plans are in process to open a Club in Northern Moore County to better serve the youth in that area.
