FIRST QUIT – FIRSTHEALTH’S QUIT TOBACCO PROGRAM

Health Education Specialist Lynn Antil is our guest for this conversation
about the cost effective program that FirstHealth offers tobacco users in
Moore, Richmond, Hoke, & Montgomery County. Her emphasis is squarely placed
on prevention of disease vs. treatment.

Lynn walks us through the addiction of nicotine along with the many
psychological associations with the habit of tobacco use. She describes the
FirstQuit program and how they can help individuals create a plan for
quitting. That plan should involve identifying barriers and triggers,
developing alternative coping mechanisms, the potential use of medications
and gaining support; all with an eye on the end goal of tobacco cessation.
Special attention is paid to the exceptionally low cost of enrollment in
this program [$5 – $50 based on income].
Kendal Rasor is one of the success stories of the program and she shares her
perspective in an open, candid and revealing way that can be of benefit to
anyone trying to quit.
Lynn & Kendal share a book, called STEVE, A Father’s Diary, written by
Whispering Pines resident, Gabriel Roy. The book served as a strong
inspiration for Kendal and is used as one of the many effective tools by
Lynn in her classes.
FirstHealth Community Health Services is located in Pinehurst at 5 Aviemore
