DEC. 13th – 14th – PROJECT SANTA & TERPSICHORE’S UPCOMING NUTCRACKER

Earl Wright started Project Santa over 20 years ago and has tirelessly worked on providing & ditributing toys and bikes to needy children in Moore County at Christmas time. Earl, his wife, Shern, and volunteer Ming Gillis talk about this year’s collection drive and the experiences they have had over many past Christmas mornings at Bo’s Supermarket parking lot overseeing the happy faces on the children when they receive their bike. This year is no exception. Donations and bikes can still be given to Project Santa. Call Shern at 910 639-4048 or attend today’s fundraiser (Dec. 13th ) from 11:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m at Bo’s Supermarket parking lot.

The 22nd presentation of The Nutcracker will be presented by the well known Terpsichore Dance School of Southern Pines at the Owens Auditorium at the Sandhills Community College from Dec. 19th through Dec. 21st. Owner and teacher, Kellye Parks is joined by 4 of her students who have major roles in this years production and are all students at Pinecrest High School who have danced together in various roles throughout their formative years. Kellye’s family extends far beyond her daughter, Kasey, who was recently injured in a cheerleading accident & double cast as Dream Clara) to the many girls she has worked with over the past 20+ years.

More than the production itself, these four impressive young ladies talk about their life long experience with the Terpsichore Dance School, and the many valuable life lessons the teaching and coaching have provided to them  in their development as dancers and as people. Their revelations and honest assessments are heartfelt and encouraging to any parent who might consider entering their child into this fine program.

Sophmore Mary Costanza (playing the Arabian Princess), Junior Lexie Metzger (playing the role of Dream Clara), & seniors Annabelle Hale and Ryan Cooke (double cast as the Sugar Plum Fairy) are four young ladies with focus, direction, talent, discipline and grace.

The Southern Pines Business Association & Toys for Tots

The Southern Pines Business Association (SPBA) was founded in 1979 by a  small group of dedicated merchants, the SPBA continually works toward the promotion, beautification and overall improvement of the Southern Pines community.

Jerry Townley of Berkshire Hathaway and Dave Berger of Keller Williams talk  with us about the Toys for Tot (TFT) program in Moore County and their 12 year association with this iconic organization. Their focus is getting toys into the hands of children and their families for the Christmas season, who might not be able to provide for themselves as well as some others. The
spirit of giving and sharing is alive and well through the Toys for Tots program and further illustrates how many ‘nets’ citizens of Moore County are provided 12 months a year. It’s not to late to donate toys for this Christmas season. Call Jerry Townley at 910 690-7080.

SANDHILLS/MOORE COALITION for Human Care, Inc

For almost 30 years, Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care has been providing emergency assistance to struggling families in Moore County. Founded in 1986 by twelve local churches, today the Coalition is lead by Executive Director, Barrett Walker and receives support from individuals, businesses, and groups throughout the community.

Executive Director Barrett Walker discusses the rich history of The Coalition Resale Shops’ location on Pennsylvania Avenue as well as the integral function they serve in fulfilling the Coalition’s mission. Barrett walks listeners through the referral and counseling services the Coalition provides as well as providing basic needs such as food clothing. Learn about the Coalition’s community events such as the upcoming Nativity Luncheon, The Resale Shops 25th Anniversary Celebration, and the Pack the Pick up Food Drive. Volunteers are obviously the heart of the Coalition and Barrett explains the many ways each of us can get involved to help the less fortunate in our community this holiday season.
